Meet Your 2025 Teacher Training Team
Led by Arise Yoga teacher Tonie Warner with Quamay Sams, Ashley Hutchinson, and Arise Yoga Studio Owner Jillian Schiavi, this training will support your growth, help you cultivate your true authentic voice, stretch your limits, nourish your practice, and help you see and lead yoga in all parts of life. We believe that everything exists within this practice, and that yoga can be a holistic framework through which any topic can be viewed. This TT leadership team exudes compassion, creativity, and a cohesive approach to holding the space for our future teachers. Read below for more information, and be sure to try out their classes at the studio!
Tonie Warner
-
Tonie started her yogic journey over 15 years ago and fell in love with the physical and mental balance, and transformation that yoga afforded her.
Wanting to share that benefit with others, she has now completed both her 200 and advanced 300hr teacher trainings at Sonic Yoga in New York City. Her classes focus on exploring the yogic path, and meeting each yogi where they're at through lighthearted, explorative and athletic vinyasa flows, with a strong hatha-based emphasis on alignment and tradition. Yoga has helped Tonie to always remain mindful of the transition stage between the start and the destination, and her classes also focus on transition and transformation through the incorporation of mudras, pranayama and energy center healing. Her classes are known for their focus on self-inquiry and the intersection of Yoga Philosophy and social justice.
In the 2024 Arise Yoga Training, Tonie shares her love for the Bhagavad Gita, sequencing, clear and deliberate cueing, and weaving story and dharma through the overall flow of practice. A true ‘teacher’s teacher,’ Tonie is committed to honoring the roots of yoga, and is excited to shepherd new and well-rounded teachers into the expanding yoga world.
Quamay Sams
-
Quamay is a movement artist and Vinyasa based Yoga Instructor. His mission is to engage individuals in the study of self to heal trauma and strengthen the body, by using the chakra system as a way to inform patterning and imbalance in energies.
Quamay began his yoga journey in the summer of 2016, and since then has channeled this practice to help aid his mental health and developmental trauma. With a deep passion for chakras, he had developed a strong love for the subtle energies of the body and strives to create a balance between movement and the mindfulness of spiritual meditation.
Having completed his initial 200 hour power vinyasa training in NYC, and subsequent 500 hour certification under Jason Crandell in the Bay Area, Quamay has led multiple teacher trainings, and impacted the lives of countless new teachers. In the 2024 training, he’s excited to connect to Brooklyn’s talented and passionate budding yoga community, and contribute insight in all areas of teaching, from skillful sequencing with deep anatomical influence, to holding space, studying the Sutras, and more.
Ashley Hutchinson
-
Her journey along the Yoga path started around ten years ago, having first been drawn to the practice as a way to find peace through movement. Through the practice Ashley also found an opportunity to look at the world through a new lens, and apply the practice of Yoga to life off the mat. To Ashley, yoga is breath, presence, and movement combined to create a meditative exploration of the body and mind.
In a class with Ashley, expect to find strong flows threaded through with thematic principles derived from Yoga philosophy.
A Columbus, OH native, Ashley now resides in Brooklyn and when off the mat can be found reading a book in the park, riding her bike around town, or at the nearest Italian restaurant diving into some pasta and a good Cabernet.
Jillian Schiavi
-
An artist, designer, and business owner, Jillian’s sense of creativity and dedication to deep listening all inform how she inspires, leads, and operates in her day to day life. She’s been a vinyasa teacher for 13 years, has led multiple teacher trainings, conducted yoga retreats all over the world, and guided the now transformed Jewel City Yoga through 2020 with the introduction of live online yoga classes. In 2022, she reimagined JCY, and founded Arise Yoga in two new and beautiful locations in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and Oakland. 2023 saw the addition of an Arise Yoga studio in San Francisco, and Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. She hires teachers for each studio with heart, builds community intentionally, and finds joy and meaning in teaching yoga with her one year old baby, River, by her side.
In the 2024 yoga training, Jillian teaches Nonviolent Communication, Dharma Talks, and Uncovering Your Authentic Voice. She’s excited to help shape and support a new wave of compassionate, creative, and beautifully diverse yoga teachers, and she looks forward to working with her fellow teachers to deliver a fulfilling and enriching experience for all students in the program.

Any student who meets our eligibility requirements is encouraged to join the Arise Yoga TT program. Upon acceptance into the program, the applicant must pay a deposit of $1000 to hold their place in the program.
If the applicant cancels 30 days or more before the start of the program, the applicant will forfeit 50% of the deposit, and the remaining balance will be refunded. If the applicant cancels 14-30 days before the start of the program, the applicant will forfeit 100% of the deposit.
The program tuition fees are non-refundable. If a student must withdraw from the program for special circumstances, the program may apply a portion of the tuition towards a future Arise Yoga training.
The program will not give any refunds or credits after the training starts. The program reserves the right to cancel any training before it begins. In that case any payments applicants have made will be refunded in full.
-
Our program expects students to be on time for class, after breaks, and after lunch. Please let our TT leadership team know if you will be late at any time.
Students are encouraged to have 100% attendance. However, we understand that students have important commitments outside of the classroom. Should extenuating circumstances impact attendance, students are permitted to miss class, provided they work with the program director (Jillian) to make up any missed hours. Students are responsible for rescheduling missed hours to make up any course material they have missed within 2 weeks of the missed days.
If a student needs to miss any training session, he or she must speak to the program director before the beginning of the session. Students are allowed to make up a total of 10 hours, 5 of which are included in the tuition cost of the training. Any hours after 5 will be paid out at a rate of $50/hour. If a student knows they’ll miss more than 10 hours, they may want to reconsider joining for this year’s program. Students also recognize that, if they miss training hours that they have not made up, they will not graduate from the program.
