Amanda Modell

Amanda brings a spirit of play, exploration, and inclusivity to their yoga teaching.

They hold certifications in both trauma-informed yoga and Anusara (alignment-based) yoga and have been practicing since 2009, when an inspiring co-worker and a persistent back injury prompted them to get on the mat and see what all the fuss was about. Amanda has dedicated their life to teaching in various contexts: they lead programs in equity-minded teaching at Stanford University and began teaching yoga in 2012. In Amanda’s classes you can expect a little bit of yoga philosophy, a chance to reflect on how you can live your yoga off the mat, and time to explore your own experience in your body, meet your fellow classmates, and have some laughs!

Amanda’s yoga lineage extends back to B.K.S. Iyengar and Krishnamacharya, who formalized these practices in Pune, Maharashtra and Mysore, India, respectively. Yoga can be a truly transformational practice and it is an honor for Amanda to bring that to others. Outside of yoga, they love queer things, cooking, live music, and spending time outdoors, and live in the Santa Cruz mountains with their little rescue dog, Dezzy.
